<\/a>So what! – Why?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\u2026.\u00a0 Because God is awesome! And he has given us this precious gift \u2013 Creation!<\/p>\n
We are totally dependent on Creation every single day of our lives! \u2013 by the very air that we breathe; the food that we eat and water that we drink.\u00a0 All the natural resources for everything \u2013 yes even down to your cell phone come from God\u2019s gift of Creation!<\/p>\n
We need to take time to say \u201cThank you, God!\u201d\u00a0 We need to take time to fall in love with his precious gift of Creation!\u00a0\u00a0 We need to take time to care for his precious gift of Creation!<\/p>\n
\u2026. That\u2019s why! \u2026.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nOk \u2013 so how can our Parish do this<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Easy step – are environmental hymns and prayers a regular feature of parish worship?<\/li>\n
- Do you hold environmentally-related liturgical services during the year? What about celebrating World Environmental Day in June and Season of Creation in September (well, at least one Service)<\/li>\n
- Would publishing tips for green living in the pew leaflet and other communications to parishioners be beneficial to the parish?<\/li>\n
- Re-connect!!!<\/em><\/strong> When last did you touch the soil, a flower, a leaf? \u2013 really<\/em><\/strong> touch it, look at it, admire it? Have you considered holding regular outdoor events: Eucharist\u2019s, hikes, birding outings, camps etc. to get closer to nature? Lots of fun for everyone!<\/li>\n
- Would educational sessions on the environment for parishioners and local community, e.g. Eco-breakfast talks or workshops appeal?<\/li>\n
- What about you considering a waste management and recycling system on parish premises?<\/li>\n
- Have you considered carrying out a local project involving parishioners and the community e.g. a clean-up of a local river or park?<\/li>\n
- Would the Sunday School and Youth group be interested in and learn from such activities? \u2013 super resource material is available \u2013 such as \u201cRyan the Rhino: a Story of Creation\u201d, <\/em>\u201cSeason of Creation for Kids\u201d & Care for Creation – Manual for Youth (find them on the Sunday School\/Youth Page)<\/a>
\n<\/em><\/li>\n- Should you consider sustainable practices on the parish properties, e.g. solar energy, water harvesting, indigenous planting, green cleaning products, minimise paper usage, re-usable crockery etc.<\/li>\n
- Should you be promoting the Diocesan Environmental Policy to parishioners?<\/li>\n
- Would it be worthwhile to perform an environmental audit of the Parish?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Do we have to do everything?<\/strong><\/h3>\nNot all at once! \u2026.
